For years, our vacations were centered around family — camping trips, long summer days at the lake, budget-friendly adventures with the kids. We made great memories in that season. Those trips shaped us.

In 2022, we had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii for work. We decided to fly out a few days early — just the two of us. No schedules. No responsibilities. No parenting from a different location.

That small decision changed something.

We were reminded what it feels like to unplug as a couple. To slow down. To reconnect. To have space to think and breathe. On the flight home, we looked at each other and said, “We need to do this more intentionally.”

So we started planning differently.

When we got home, we booked our next trip. Since then, we’ve been adding pins to the map hanging in our living room.

Yes, there’s an actual map.

Silver pins mark the places we’ve traveled together. Gray pins mark where we’re headed next — trips that are booked, down payments made, plans in motion. If it’s gray, it’s happening. Every gray pin eventually turns silver.

We both work full-time, so we plan bigger trips well in advance and pace ourselves. Some adventures are big. Others are simple weekend getaways or day escapes close to home. All of them matter.
